question

any chance of getting a 5X7 option when printing???

VERY mixed opinions

If i could, I’d give it 2.5 because i like what it has, but it needs an upgrade. First, the good: Easy to import recipes. The automatic links mostly work, though Food Network drops the recipe name and it has to be added separately — a few other monor glitches — bu tnothing to be concerned about. The manual import works fine from every site I have tried. By the way, if you can’t find the instructions for how to do it, if you enter [2], [3], etc. you will place additional photos at those sites in the recipes. The grocery/shopping lists are the best of any recipe program I have seen. You can specify the aisle to shop in, ingredients (if listed PRECISELY the same way) are added together. Search function for recipes is also very good. Searching recipes by ingredient is great if you have the iPhone or iPad app. Take it to the store with you, see what looks good, check for recipes with that ingredient, and off you go. The bad: The syncing is awful. A complete pain in the butt. Sometimes strange difficulties, duplicate recipes, (sort of) show up when syncing. I have had other problems that were VERY difficult to fix because of missing IMPORTANT data that screwed up the program. My eyes are not what they used to be, and the recipe font is too small. The next upgrade is supposed to make that modifiable, but who knows when that will come out. Which brings us to the main problem: An upgrade to take care of these problems has been in the offing for a loooong time. On the Facebook account it mentions a V.3.0 more than 6 months ago — but so far no luck. It might be an orphan app. — but the web site is still up and running. But that is probably relatively inexpensive as long as people ar still buying the app. at all. The potential is wonderful, I hope the builder pulls it together.

Vaporware

This is vaporware now.

Awful App for Mac - Dont Waste Your $$

I thought this would be a great app to download my saved recipes, but its a waste of time and money. Its not user friendly and, just when you think youve saved a recipe, you find out its not saved. Total waste of time and money. If I could give it 0 stars I would.

Vaporware at this point.

This used to be the best of the best. Not only was it a brilliant recipe manager, but it was actually somehow, fun to use! The developer kept in contact with customers, kept updates steady on Twitter and his website. But somewhere along the way, he lost his way. Things seemed hopeful with the iOS version update, and it seemed like we’d finally have the ability to painlessly sync our iOS devices with our Mac version, with the Mac version update on the horizon. “Very near release” in October last year. But it’s now been since October since the last time he really updated us on the status, and since mid January since he has answered any customer questions on his page (and even then he was vague and very careful to not be specific). We’re now stuck with a beautiful iOS app, that is effectively useless with a seemingly dead OSX version to work with it. Personally, we’ve moved on to the alternative. At least that one is updated regularly, and even when it’s between updates, customers are kept in the loop about when to expect things, and what’s being done. Top tip - In the future, if you want to keep customers, even if you need them to wait this absurd length of time, keep in touch with them. Regularly. Bi-weekly at very least frequent, and as often as possible on the other end of the spectrum. The way you’re doing things here makes people completely uninterested in version 3 if and when it ever comes out. No one wants to pay money for an app by a dev that doesn’t know how public relations works, or how to get their work done on the product. Especially when the app costs more than 99 cents, let alone 15 dollars. If it takes this long to go from “very near release” to released, I shudder to think how long we’ll wait on bug fixes or version 4 with the new iOS and OSX versions coming out later this year. Get on the ball.

Does Not Hold Up

I bought YummySoup! a couple of years ago because it was easy to use and the developer was promising to release a (then still in-development) client for iPad. That client was finally released, but it cost money to buy it, and it was only a reader -- you cant create new recipes on the iPad or iPhone version of YummySoup! Not only has the iOS version not advanced since its first update, the desktop version has also remained untouched in more than a year. The developer remains silent, and it looks like this software has reached the end of the line. I switched to another recipe manager, which I absolutely love. I wont give the name because I dont want to sound like Im a biased shill, but suffice it to say that there is at least one other recipe manager that does everything YummySoup! does and more, and is available in fully-functional desktop, iPhone, and iPad versions. In the case of my favorite, each version can be used completely stand-alone (add recipes, create menus and shopping lists, etc.) or sync with other versions and devices for greater portability. In summary, there are better, more actively updated, and more robust options out there. YummySoup! looks pretty, but it doesnt deliver the best experience, and it probably never will. I notice that the developer has now promised updated features for all versions in the store description. Ill believe it when I see it. I originally believed a promise of "iPad support coming soon!" Months later, a half-baked iPad app FINALLY arrived, followed by an update even more months later. Do not buy this based on promises of future features. If youre not in a hurry, wait for the updates before purchasing. Otherwise, go with another app that has the same features and is available today. EDIT: I’m returning to this review after more than a year, and I see that the app has still had no updates in that time. I no longer feel that it would be inappropriate to say that Paprika is my current recipe manager of choice.

can’t share the file to iOS

So, after months of promising complete icloud sync between Mac OS and iOS we still dont have it. Emailed support and usually they reply within a day or two and at one week with nothing. My desktop has all the recent recipes we’ve added and for the last year the file sharing through iTunes has barely worked. I just want the normal Apple expierence of everything “just working.” Update. I’m out. Found Paprika and it does everything YummySoup has been promising to do for the last 2 years. I have emailed YummySoup three times in the last 6 weeks asking when the program will actually work and never got a response. If your not going to keep the program updated then others will create a product to replace it. See ya.

no sync with ipad

I liked this app at first, but thought it would improve to make importing easier in more sites. I downloaded Paprika in my iPad and loooved the fact that you can sync recipes from different devices. I find it easier to search for recipes in my computer, but use my iPad to read recipe while cooking and take it to the supermarket to read my grocery list. It has tons of sites where it automatically imports recipes from. The bad news is i have to buy this app in both devices. Sorry Yummy! but to anyone looking to buy a recipe organizer, I would recommend Paprika because of these features.

Unstable. Can’t add recipes to folders. Buggy. Otherwise, it would be good.

There have been a lot of pervasive bugs (crashing, losing recipes, sorting in folders not persisting across restarts, etc) that have not been addressed by the developer. These bugs have existed for months or longer, so although the UI and convenience is promising, this is not an app that can be confidently recommended. Bummer… really wanted to like it.

Versatile

I love this application and use it not only for storing favorite food recipes, I am finding it useful to organize, document and store recipes/formulas for painting mediums and cosmetics. Thank you!

good, but...

I’ve had this app for oover a year now and it’s exactly what I wanted when I was looking for in a recipe organizer. However, it’s annoying how I can’t sync between my iMac, Mac Book Pro and phone. That’s really why I haven’t used it too much since I purchased it.

Lets get this synch thing fixed please

I love the Mac app but the synch need to be seamless between the Mac App and the iPhone/iPad app. Get that working like it should and this is easily a 5 star setup. The import is the best around and the interface is great. Love the app.

Time To Jump Ship

It’s time to bid farewell to this once really cool app. I bought the app several years ago and loved it. But with each upgrade it went downhill. I kept holding out hope that the devs would fix all the sync/crashing/freezing issues. Apparently they have gotten bored with this app and nothing has improved. Devs are unresponsive. I noticed their Facebook page most recent entries are from 2011. Bad sign. They’ve probably lost so much of their audience they just don’t care anymore. Save your money and purchase Paprika. That’s where I’m headed. Sayonara.

Time to move on

I bought this application years ago and loved it. Unfortunately it seems to have been abandoned by the developer. Years have come and gone and the promised updates never appeared. I reluctantly moved on and am now using Paprika, which is a great replacement.

Won’t Open

I have all of my recipes saved in this app and it will no longer open on my computer. It says it is damaged and cannot open. I deleted, re-downloaded it, and tried again and am still having that problem. I’m trying to open on another computer and having no luck. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

I can no longer open this app

What’s up with this? And there seems to be no way to contact the developer. Extremely disappointed

Says it’s damaged

I have over 1000 recipes in this program. I use it daily. Will no longer open. Have emailed developer; but, no response. Please please help. This has been an excellent app.

No support

I used this application for about 4 years and liked it a great deal — despite the fact that there were no updates. Many of the features stopped working as the iMac operating system evolved. I had hundreds of recipes saved; many of them were from my mother and grandmother and were irreplaceable. Suddenly, the application stopped working. A message popped up telling me to reinstall from the Apple store. I tried that. I tried retrieving it from backup. Nothing has worked. I called Apple support. They were wonderful, even though they do not support this application, but we achieved no success. I sent an email to the YummySoup! support person and have not received a response. It has been over a month and I have received no reply. I have lost my precious recipes; some of which can never be replaced. I would not recommend that anyone buy this application.

Any way to pull our data?

I had the same thing happen as many of the recent posters - my app recently stopped working (I suspect after an iOS update) and now will not launch. I’d love to be able to export my data somehow!

Downgraded to 1 star

I’ve used Yummy Soup for 5 years and while some features were a bit clunky, overall I loved it. I filled it with my favorite recipes and treasured photos, such as a salsa recipe with a photo of my son making it. I planned to print out the collection for my teenagers as they reached college age. And then out of nowhere it stopped working and all of my recipes and photos are inaccessible. I have contacted YummySoup!Support at least 3 times over the past few months and have received no response.
