Does Not Hold Up
I bought YummySoup! a couple of years ago because it was easy to use and the developer was promising to release a (then still in-development) client for iPad. That client was finally released, but it cost money to buy it, and it was only a reader -- you cant create new recipes on the iPad or iPhone version of YummySoup!
Not only has the iOS version not advanced since its first update, the desktop version has also remained untouched in more than a year. The developer remains silent, and it looks like this software has reached the end of the line.
I switched to another recipe manager, which I absolutely love. I wont give the name because I dont want to sound like Im a biased shill, but suffice it to say that there is at least one other recipe manager that does everything YummySoup! does and more, and is available in fully-functional desktop, iPhone, and iPad versions. In the case of my favorite, each version can be used completely stand-alone (add recipes, create menus and shopping lists, etc.) or sync with other versions and devices for greater portability.
In summary, there are better, more actively updated, and more robust options out there. YummySoup! looks pretty, but it doesnt deliver the best experience, and it probably never will.
I notice that the developer has now promised updated features for all versions in the store description. Ill believe it when I see it. I originally believed a promise of "iPad support coming soon!" Months later, a half-baked iPad app FINALLY arrived, followed by an update even more months later. Do not buy this based on promises of future features. If youre not in a hurry, wait for the updates before purchasing. Otherwise, go with another app that has the same features and is available today.
EDIT: I’m returning to this review after more than a year, and I see that the app has still had no updates in that time. I no longer feel that it would be inappropriate to say that Paprika is my current recipe manager of choice.
