Yummy Soup is a very nice application. Most reviewers have given it five stars; I wish I could follow their lead; I can’t. Given the opportunity I would rate it 3 1/2 stars, three will have to do. What do I like? First and foremost, YS has an attractive interface. With a wide choice of themes I can have nearly any look on my screen that I choose. Importing recipes from the web sites linked to Yummy Soup is quite easy. Importing from other sites is a small challenge until you get the knack of how to get the job done. I found that more careful proofreading was necessary to assure that the import was accurate; this was especially true with the ingredient list. If you have recipes formatted for Word or Pages on your hard drive they, too, can be imported with relative ease. Are your documents in a PDF format? Would you like to scan recipes from your printed cook books? Neither of those tasks is quite so simple. It appears that you will need to have OCR software capable of converting PDF to text. The software is relatively expensive and the resulting text will still require a bit of editing. There are some other shortcomings, too. None of them are terribly serious; resolving them would make this a truly five star application. Is there a way to modify the font size when printing a recipe? I was not able to find a way to do that? I would like to be able to print a list of the recipes that I have saved, but that does not seem possible. And, where are my recipe files on my hard drive? It would be nice to be able to use Finder to actually find them. One would think that the Users Guide would provide all of the answers; not so. The guide is more of an overgrown brochure describing the capabilities of YS, rather than helping one discover how to use the program. Still, I find the application to be useful and have no regrets for having made the purchase. Yes, I’ve noted some room for improvement, but all in all, Yummy Soup is a very nice application.
